The best of seasonal eating

fruits in a stand

Summer ushers in a glorious season for food-lovers in Toronto. We have a full range of seasonal produce all summer long.

Check us out for Ontario strawberries, asparagus, English and mini cucumbers, garlic greens and scapes, mini Bella mushrooms, red and mixed bell peppers, kohlrabi, radishes, onions, tomatoes, and zucchini, and an array of greens: baby kale, baby spinach, spring mix (perfect for quick, delicious salads), and baby arugula, with a nice peppery bite perfect in sandwiches or homemade pizza.

July brings seasonal fruits: cherries, followed by raspberries, peaches, apricots, nectarines and plums. Watch for melons and super fresh corn on the cob in August, followed by grapes, pears and apples in early fall. Summer long, you can expect to see delicious carrots, celery, broccoli, potatoes and much more.

You’ll also find some imported tropical produce — fair-trade bananas, Hass avocados and jewel yams — as well as Bosc pears.

Canada’s Food Guide recommends filling at least half of your plate with fresh veggies and fruits, and there’s no more delicious time to do that than summer in Ontario! We grow the best in the world right here. Unlike big grocers, we favour seasonal suppliers, so you’ll find healthy, colourful produce grown by local farmers at Schmucker’s Fresh From The Farm throughout the growing season.

Plan to eat seasonally this year and enjoy all of nature’s bounty at its full peak of flavour and freshness!
