The Food Justice Movement

Fresh From the Farm is a part of the “food justice” movement. This movement has emerged in response to the globalization of mass-produced food, which has resulted in:

  • unsafe and unhealthy food coming from huge processing factories and factory farms
  • reliance on massive inputs of chemicals and petroleum, practices that are ecologically unsustainable and put profit before people
  • monoculture farming that is ecologically unsustainable
  • loss of family farms, traditional farming practices, and local food production, in favour of mass-produced food that must travel long distances to consumers, leading to environmental damage and food insecurity

The “food justice” movement seeks to provide safe and healthy food suited to the local diet and produced by processes that are both ecologically and economically sustainable.
